How to Set Up For Your Book Signing

How to Set Up For Your Book Signing

After your book is completed and especially while it is at the printer one of the first things that you do as part of letting the world know about your book is make arrangements and distribute your books to bookstores. The second thing to do is to set up for book signings. It does not matter whether it is your first or fifth book, the very first thing to do is to get ready to sell.  It doesn’t matter whether it is a book store signing or one at a trade fair or Expo, don’t just sit around waiting on book buyers to come to you.  You are the seller, and you must sell yourself as well as your book. Use a plain table and chair so as not to take away from your book. A nice table cover will do that reaches to the floor as you can hide things underneath such as more books, a snack, a drink for thirst, extra fliers and cards etc. For a few dollars you can have a gigantic or just a large poster (eye catcher) of yourself and book on an easel so that those far away can see what is going on. Make sure you bring over one hundred fliers and cards. Last but not least, in fact the most important thing is to have is an over abundance of books. Your goal for that day should be to sell out, and do it. Your book should be nicely arranged on the table along with everything else. Don’t put too many on the table, utilize the space under the table to replenish the top. You will need room to sign many books.

How To Make Money as an Author

You have written your first book, and now it is time to let the world know.

  1. Sell.  Sell.  Sell to everyone you know and meet.  Start pre-selling immediately after you complete the manuscript and as soon as your book is at the printer.  Once your book is published and before it comes off the printing press start setting up author talks and book signings.
  2. Contact your local bookstores, libraries, associations, and other organizations that may be related to your book, or that know you about speaking to their members and groups and set up book signings.
  3. Talking to everyone you meet about your book gets sales. Hit up everyone, including the valet attendant,  let them know about your book. One of my authors arranged to do a book signing at the hospital he frequented shortly before his book was published.
  4. Become a consultant in the field you published in. This means that people will look to you for your advice and they might buy your book. You could also make money coaching and consulting as an added bonus to making money as an author. Some authors command and get handsome fees for speaking including book sales at the event.
  5. Start a blog.  Write plenty of online content to let people know who you are and what you have published makes money.  You could offer to write guest blogs on your subjects to get attention or charge a fee when you get a following of fans and/or become well known.

You need to market and promote your book and your platform  . . . You need to keep your book in front of the influencers – the reviewers, reporters, librarians, bookstore buyers and others who are helping potential customers decide whether or not to buy your book!  Editing service,  concept to finished manuscript.  Book Marketing & Promotions Service.
